SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State San Bernardino withstood a late rally from California Collegiate Athletic Association leader Cal State Dominguez Hills to beat the Toros, 65-59, in Coussoulis Arena Friday night.

In beating the Toros, ranked No. 3 in the West Region, the No. 9-ranked Coyotes showed they want a shot at a berth in the regional as they improved to 18-6 on the season and 12-5 in the CCAA while the Toros retained at least a one game lead in the conference at 14-3, 16-7 overall.

Junior guard Tamara Thomas scored 19 points, sinking a jumper and six free throws in the final 1:09 and making a steal in the final seconds to secure the win for the Coyotes. Senior center Sequoia Williams had 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior Joyce Proctor chipped in 10 points.

Junior point guard Tameka Blue led the Toros with 13 points and six assists while freshman Alana Bailey and Michelle Kribell each had 12 points. The Toros outshot the Coyotes 44 percent to 39 percent from the field but the Coyotes converted 24 free throws to just eight for the visiting Toros.

Thomas scored nine points and Williams eight as the Coyotes forged a 37-28 halftime lead, but the Toros began to cut into the margin, reducing the CSUSB lead to three on more than one occasion but each time CSUSB responded.

The Coyotes led 57-50 with 2:49 left when Blue nailed a three-pointer to cut the lead to four and Brittney Blankenship made a layup with 39 seconds left to narrow the lead to 60-57. The Toros were forced to foul Coyotes players, and Thomas was six for six down the stretch to ice the game.
