SFSU Sweeps Toros in CCAA Baseball

San Francisco, Calif.--- The San Francisco State University Gator baseball team recorded its first doubleheader sweep of the season as the Gators swept the visiting Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-14, 4-11 CCAA) 4-2 and 7-0. The Gators improve to 10-16 overall and 5-10 in the CCAA.

In game one, the Toros scored once in the second and once in the fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead going into the seventh inning. SF State took the lead in the bottom half of the seventh inning as they scored four runs on four hits.

AJ Biama started things with an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. He went to third on bunt single by Carlos Medina. With one out, Christopher Watters drove in Biama with a RBI single up the middle. Jason Carlson then hit a three-run home run to left, his second in two days and of the season.

Biama finished the game 2 for 4 with a run scored while Carlson had three runs batted in. Jose Montes and Martin Conde each had two hits for the visiting Toros.

Roberto Torres improved to 1-3, pitching 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out nine and walking none. John Segovia pitched the final two scoreless innings of relief for his first save of the season. He struck out two and walked none in the two innings.

Jason Garcia (2-2) recorded the loss for Cal State Dominguez Hills. He pitched 7 innings, gave up six hits and four runs while walking none and striking out two.

In the nightcap, Chris Brown pitched his second consecutive complete game victory by going 7 innings, giving up just three hits and striking out three while walking none. This was his first complete game shutout of the season.

The Gators scored all the runs they needed in the fourth inning. In the fourth, SF State sent 12 batters to the plate and had 7 runs and 6 hits. During the inning, there was a 45-minute rain delay. The two big hits came off the bats of Aaron Garcia and Medina both two-run scoring singles.

Medina, Garcia, and Alex Swartz each had two hits while Ron Markovich was 3 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored. Kris Gibson added a RBI triple.

Gary Scott (2-2) recorded the loss pitching 1.1 innings of relief giving up five hits and 7 runs (6 earned) while striking out one and walking one.

The two teams will return to the diamond tomorrow morning for an 11am scheduled conference doubleheader at SF State’s Maloney Field.
