SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State Stanislaus, ranked
No. 13 in one collegiate poll and No. 17 in another, on Tuesday
captured the 4th annual Coyote Classic Collegiate Invitational
hosted by Cal State San Bernardino at Shandin Hills Golf Course.
The Warriors fashioned a two-under par total of
862 for 54 holes to win the tournament by 13 shots over Saint
Martin's College of Washington. Sonoma State University was third
15 strokes back of the Warriors while Grand Canyon, Point Loma
Nazarene and Western Washington tied for fourth at 878.
Cal State Dominguez Hills finished in 12th
place in the two-day tourney. The Toros' L.C. Honore, Jr. was the
team's top finisher at 228 (T46).
Shane Prante of Saint Martin's logged a
one-over par 73 on the final 18 holes, played in sunshine and mild
temperatures over the 6,517-yard, par-72 Shandin HIlls layout to
wind up the tournament with a nine-under-par 207 after rounds of
69 and 65 on Monday.
Prante was two under on the par-3s and
nine-under par on the par-5s and tied for the lead in birdies made
with 16 with Justesen. Thornberry was six under on the par-4s.
Kyle Hopkins of Sonoma State had the most pars in the field (39).
