TURLOCK, Calif.The visiting Cal State
Dominguez Hills baseball team split a CCAA doubleheader against
Cal State Stanislaus Sunday afternoon, winning 9-4 in game one but
dropping game two by the score 7-5. With a split yesterday, the
Warriors and Toros finish the season series 2-2.
In the first game, it was the Toros (18-21,
8-17 CCAA) taking a quick 6-0 lead over the Warriors (18-22, 12-13
CCAA) highlighted by a four-run fourth.
Catcher Claudio Gutierrez started the scoring
in the fourth with a two-run double and was capped off by a
two-run single by Isidiro Perez.
The Warriors added a lone run in the fourth and
started a small rally in the eighth, scoring three runs on a homer
by Jason Louis to cut the deficit to 9-4.
In the game, the Toros outhit the Warriors 12-4
with five players recording a pair of hits.
Chris Borchers picked up the win to improve to
2-6 and Marshall Beyer took the loss of even his record to 2-2.
In the final game of the series, Dominguez
Hills took a quick 2-0 lead in the first, but the Warriors
answered with three runs in each of the first and second innings
to take the 6-2 lead.
The Warriors scored the first run of the game
on a single by Louis and added two more in the first on a double
by Jason Durbin.
In the second, Stanislaus got RBI-singles from
Pete Hernandez, Louis and Tony Marx.
The Toros fought back with two runs in the
third on a home run by Perez and one more in the fourth on a
sacrifice bunt by Chris Martinez.
Stanislaus added one more run on a single by
Louis in the fourth to cap the games scoring.
Josh Rodriguez earned his first win of the
season to improve to 1-2. Jeremy Hickman earned the save, his
first, in three innings of relief. Gus Hernandez suffered the loss
and is now 2-1 overall.
Louis and Durbin each had three hits in the
game with Louis going 3-for-4 with three RBI and on run. Durbin
had a perfect 3-for-3 day with a pair of RBI.
The Toros will host Cal Baptist at Toro Field
on Wednesday, before traveling to CCAA rival Cal State San
Bernardino on Thursday, April 14 beginning at 2:30. That game
