WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez
Hills first baseman Jackie Miller has been named the Wilson
California Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Player of the
Week, and Valerie Long has been named the Pitcher of the Week,
both for the week of April 4-10.
Miller, a junior from Bremerton, Wash., led the
Toros to a 6-0 week that vaulted CSUDH atop the CCAA standings
(33-7, 18-4).
She hit .579 (11 for 19) with a double, 5 home
runs, 10 runs scored, 12 runs batted and compiled a 1.421 slugging
percentage and a .636 on-base average over six games.
Miller hit a home run in a school-record 4
consecutive games. She opened the week with a 4-for-7, 3 RBI
effort in a 10-2, 12-1 doubleheader sweep at UC San Diego. The
following day, Miller went 4 for 6 with 2 homers, 5 runs and 4 RBI
in a 10-1, 18-2 sweep at Cal State San Bernardino. She finished
the week by going 3 for 6 with 2 home runs, 4 runs scored and 5
RBIs as the Toros again swept UCSD, 11-3 and 9-3.
This is Miller's first-career CCAA Player of
the Week honor.
Long, a senior from Stockton, went 3-0 and
posted a 1.68 earned run average against CCAA rivals UC San Diego
and Cal State San Bernardino last week. The Toros went 6-0 against
UCSD and CSUSB (Apr. 8-10) and took sole possession of first place
in the CCAA with an 18-4 league mark.
Long tossed a 2-hit complete game at UCSD to
open the week, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, a walk and struck out 8.
The following day, she pitched 3 and two-thirds innings of a 10-1
romp at Cal State San Bernardino. She finished the week with a
complete-game win over UC San Diego in which she scattered 2
earned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks and struck out 9.
For the week, Long allowed 4 earned runs on 9
hits and 3 walks and struck out 19 over 16.2 innings. Opposing
lineups hit just .153 against Long.
This is Long's second CCAA Pitcher of the Week
honor this season, and third of her career.
