PASO ROBLES Cal State Bakersfield won
its fourth straight California Collegiate Athletic Association
team title Tuesday by defeating Chico State in a one-hole playoff
at Hunter Ranch Golf Club.
The Roadrunners Mark Baker then defeated
Chico States Chris Massoletti in a two-hole playoff for
tournament medallist honors after both ended the 54-hole event
tied at five-under par 211.
The Toros finished the competition in eighth
place. L.C. Honore, Jr., in 34th place, led the CSUDH contingent.
Both teams finished the regular portion of the
tournament with a score of 877, one stroke ahead of Cal State San
Bernardino which led the tournament after 36 holes.
Cal State Monterey Bays Eric Justesen was
the overall individual winner with a 11-under par 205, but the
Otters are a provisional CCAA member for 2004-05 after moving from
NAIA and are not eligible for Championship honors.
The All-CCAA team selected by coaches was
headed by MVP Ryan Thornberry of Cal State Stanislaus, who tied
for fourth in the championship. The team: Joe Dolby and Brian
Duckworth of UC San Diego; Andy Moren of Cal State Stanislaus;
Baker, Greg Lopez and D.J. Fernando of Cal State Bakersfield;
Robert Mink of Cal State San Bernardino; Adam Lewis of Sonoma
State and Massoletti of Chico State.
The freshman of the year was Andrew Sanchez of
Chico State. Coach of the year honors went to Dave Barber of Cal
State Bakersfield. |
