Carson, CA The Cal State Dominguez Hills
softball team, having established school bests with a 42-9 overall
and 22-4 CCAA record heading into this Saturdays final CCAA
matchup, finds itself amongst the best in the nation in various
individual and team statistics, as released earlier today by the
NCAA.
Individually, senior pitching ace Valerie Long
(Stockton, CA/St. Marys HS) earns her place in three
categories, coming in at No. 19 in strikeouts per 7 innings (8.7),
tied at No. 26 in wins (19) and at No. 36 in ERA (1.17). Fellow
ace Jackie Miller (Bremerton, WA/Central Kitsap HS/CS Stanislaus)
makes her lone appearance at No. 20 in ERA (0.94), while junior
speedster Cindy Perry (Victorville, CA/Silverado HS) rounds out
the individual appearances in the NCAA poll, sliding in at No. 17
in stolen bases per game (0.76).
As a team, the Toros are at No. 7 nationally in
fielding percentage (.973), No. 10 in Win/Loss Percentage (.824),
and No. 16 in ERA (1.30).
CSUDH concludes its conference season with a
doubleheader at Cal State Bakersfield this Saturday. The Toros
then host two non-conference opponents in Biola (May 4) and Grand
Canyon (May 6), before their opponent and destination are revealed
as the NCAA Division II Far West Region Playoffs commence on
Thursday, May 12, at a site to be determined.
