LOS ANGELES -- Visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills used three runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings as the Toros earned an 8-4 win over Cal State L.A. on Friday afternoon at Reeder Field.

CSUDH improves to 23-30, 13-24 CCAA, while CSULA falls to 20-23, 15-22 CCAA.

Cal State L.A. got off to a 2-0 lead as Matt Winkelman's double down the left field line in the bottom of the first scored Kyle Williams, who walked two batters earlier. CSULA scored again in the fourth inning as Henry Contreras singled to right field to score Beard, who opened the frame with a double to center field.

CSUDH tied the game with two runs in the top of the fifth inning, getting an RBI double from Chris Martinez and an RBI groundout by Jose Montes to knot the game at 2-2. CSULA reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Rene Gonzalez's single against a drawn-in infield scored Beard, who again had opened an inning with a double, as the Golden Eagles took a 3-2 lead.

The Toros took control in the seventh and eighth innings, taking advantage of back-to-back walks to open each frame. In the seventh inning, CSUDH got a two-RBI single by Montes while a two-RBI double by Matthew Hopps in the eighth inning helped push the CSUDH margin to 8-3.

Cal State L.A. added a final run in the ninth inning as Joey Molina was hit by a pitch to open the inning, moved up twice on wild pitches and came home on a sac fly to right by Winkelman.

Winkelman and Beard paced CSULA offensively while Hopps went 3-for-5 for CSUDH. Both teams hit the ball well on the afternoon as CSUDH knocked 12 hits while Cal State L.A. had 11.

Chris Borchers (4-7) picked up the complete game win for CSUDH, scattering 11 hits and fanning five.

Brandon Higelin (5-6) took the loss for CSULA, allowing 11 hits and five runs while fanning seven batters in seven innings.

CSULA and CSUDH will end the 2005 season with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday morning at Reeder Field.
