CARSON, Calif.--The Cal State Dominguez Hills
men's and women's soccer teams will open the season ranked among
the elite nationally as the men are ranked No. 15 and the women
are ranked No. 19 in the preseason NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II
polls.
CSUDH is the only California Collegiate
Athletic Association (CCAA) school that features both programs
ranked nationally.
The men's team is coming off a 17-3-3 campaign
last year that came to an end in the first-round of the NCAA
playoffs on penalty kicks. The squad finished with an impressive
12-0-2 mark in league play. Head Coach Joe Flanagan's squad
returns five starters from last years team, including the 2004
CCAA MVP, Kei Kamara. The sophomore forward finished an incredible
freshman season with 42 points on 16 goals and 10 assists.
The Toros' first home match will take place on
Friday, August 26 against Concordia University (CA) beginning at
1:30.
The CSUDH women's team will also open up the
2005 season against Concordia University (CA) on Friday, August 26
as part of the non-league doubleheader. Kick-off is set for 4:00
p.m.
The Toros will look to defend the CCAA
Championship after winning their first league title since 1998.
The team lost in the first-round of the NCAA playoffs and
completed the season with a 14-6-3 mark. Flanagan returns 10
starters and 18 lettermen from last year's squad, including 2004
CCAA MVP Rachele McDonald, that will vie for its
second-consecutive CCAA title.
