Riverside, CA -- Toros true freshman Kristin
Glen (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Trabuco Hills HS) broke the
20-minute mark at the UC Riverside Cross Country Invite this
morning, running 19:43 in the 5k race to pace the Toros to an
overall 9th-place finish amongst the 13 competing schools.
Glen shaved 36 seconds off her previous
career-best mark of 20:19.1, which she set at the UC Irvine meet
on September 10. In doing so, her 28th-place finish led CSUDH to a
faster average team time than Occidental College and Cal Tech,
among others, which all finished below the Toros in the open
category.
Overall, all but one Toro improved her
respective individual best this morning. Monica Marroquin (Los
Angeles, CA/LACC), who finished the race in 20:34.10, improved her
time by nearly 30 seconds as she broke the 21-minute mark with her
49th-place finish.
Valarie Tucker (Downey, CA/El Camino College),
who finished 52nd, finished faster for the third-consecutive time,
running in 20:41.7. Pamela Gonzalez (Los Angeles, CA/LACC)
(22:23.3) and Leslie Gonzalez (Los Angeles, CA/Roosevelt HS)
(23:04.1), who finished 101st and 114th, ran 40 seconds and one
minute better than their respective career-best times, while
Orquidea Ramos (Carson, CA/Downey HS) decreased her time by 1:25
in placing 118th, crossing the finish line in a time of 23:23.5.
Breanna Foster (Cypress, CA/CS Fullerton)
(24:18.5, 122nd) and Dorthy Andrews (Moreno Valley, CA/Humbodlt
State) (27:20.7, 130th) rounded out the Toro efforts this
afternoon.
Individually, Stephanie Rothstein took the
title in a time of 17:07.7, while Cal Coast TC achieved the team
title with an average time of 18:40.82.
The Toros next travel to Las Vegas to compete
in the UNLV invite on Saturday, October 8, the final race before
the CCAA Championships, which are scheduled for Saturday, October
22, in San Francisco, CA.
