BAKERSFIELD, Calif. Cal State Dominguez
Hills forward Kei Kamara scored a pair of goals and assisted on
another to end Cal State Bakersfields season Saturday night
on the Main Soccer Field as the Toros downed the Roadrunners 3-1.
Bakersfield fought hard in a match it had to
win to qualify for the final CCAA playoff spot, but Dominguez
Hills (15-3-2 overall, 9-3-2 CCAA), which entered ranked No. 11 in
the latest NSCAA/NCAA Division II poll, had other plans.
The Roadrunners got on the board first as
senior Matt OSullivan scored his team-best seventh goal of
the season on a blast past Toro goalkeeper Kyle Polak in the matchs
10th minute.
After a couple of chances either way, the Toros
finally responded as Kamara headed home a corner kick in the 26th
minute. Dominguez Hills kept up the pressure after that goal while
the Roadrunners held off the charge to preserve a 1-1 match at the
half.
In the second, the Toros came out with fire,
missing a number of great chances before finally taking the lead
in the 70th minute. Kamara scored his second of the night and 14th
of the season after running onto a great through ball off the foot
of Sammy Rivas.
Dominguez Hills put the icing on the cake with
a goal by Jason Koza with just over a minute remaining in the
match after Kamara flicked the ball off his head to record the
assist.
Bakersfield, which ends the year with a record
of 10-10-0 and 7-7-0 in CCAA play, needed a victory tonight to
secure the final CCAA playoff spot. That berth now goes to Cal
State San Bernardino, which will play Dominguez Hills, the
tournaments top seed, in the opening match of the CCAA
tournament on Friday (Nov. 4).
