Toros Soccer Teams Headed Towards This Week's CCAA Championship Tournament
Men face Cal State San Bernardino on Friday at 1:30 p.m.; women vs. host Cal State Stanislaus at 7:00 p.m.
October 30, 2005

Carson, CA -- Both the CSUDH men’s and women’s soccer teams officially have qualified for the CCAA Championship Tournament and will travel to designated host Cal State Stanislaus for the two-day tournament, which begins Friday, November 4. The Warriors, who qualified their women’s team as the CCAA North Division Champions, will hold all contests at the Warrior Soccer Field in Turlock, CA.

The Toro men, the CCAA South Division champions who are ranked No. 11 nationally and 1st in the NCAA Far West Region, finished the regular season at 15-3-2, 9-3-2 CCAA and will square off against Cal State San Bernardino in the men's second semifinal on Friday, scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. first kick.

Reigning CCAA MVP Kei Kamara (Lawndale, CA/Leuzinger HS) and two-time 1st-team All-Region selection Francisco Corona (Paramount, CA/LA Harbor JC) lead a potent Toro offense against the Coyotes, whom the Toros defeated 4-0 in their only matchup in late September. Kamara has 14 goals and five assists while Corona, who established the CSUDH all-time record for points in a career in the 2-0 victory over cross-town rival Cal State L.A. on October 26, has seven goals and six assists entering the CCAA Tournament.

The defending CCAA Champions who are ranked No. 15 nationally and 3rd in the NCAA Far West Region, the Toro women finished runner-up in the CCAA's South Division with a 13-5-2, 8-4-2 CCAA record, and will face host Cal State Stanislaus in Friday's marquee matchup, scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. first kick.

Reigning CCAA MVP Rachele McDonald (Ventura, CA/Ventura College) leads CSUDH with eight goals and nine assists, while sophomore Tara Senff (Palos Verdes Estates, CA/South HS) also has tallied a team-high eight goals for the Toros. Senior Katie Roche (Costa Mesa, CA/Cypress College) and freshman Kristen Boskovich (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA/Peninsula HS) each has contributed six goals for a balanced CSUDH squad, which boasts six players who have at least 12 points on the year.

In the two teams' earlier meeting on October 9, the Toros took a 2-0 decision over the Warriors in Carson, outshooting CSUS 25-8, including a 13-4 first half margin in which the Toros notched both their goals.
