RIVERSIDE, Calif.--(November 5)--UC Riverside
beat Cal State Dominguez Hills 71-57 in a women's basketball
exhibition game Saturday afternoon in front of 175 fans at the
Student Recreation Center in Riverside. The Highlanders debuted
their revamped roster as nine different players scored.
The Highlanders were led by freshman guard
Seyram Gbewonyo's game-high 19 points. Gbewonyo shot 5-for-9 from
the floor and was 8-for-12 from the free throw line while also
grabbing six rebounds and dishing four assists.
Freshman forward Ronéy Friend also
reached double-figures for the Highlanders with 10 points. Friend
also pulled down seven rebounds, including five offensive. UCR
controlled the boards 52-29 while grabbing 20 offensive rebounds.
Sophomore center Kemie Nkele had a game-high 18 rebounds (eight
offensive) to go with eight points, eight blocks, and four
assists.
The Toros were led by guard Tameka Blue's
17 points but only one of those came in the second half. Alana
Bailey chipped in 15 points and five rebounds.
CSUDH opens up the 2005-06 schedule at home on
November 25 against Humboldt State University. First tip is
scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
