Toros Denied CCAA Men's Soccer Championship by Upstart Sonoma State in Double Overtime, 1-0
CSUDH awaits fate for NCAA postseason to be announced on Monday

Turlock, CA -- Sonoma State's Vince Morrow took a quick cross from Tim Maycock just outside the Toros box and one-timed his shot near post past the diving CSUDH goalkeep Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach, CA/CS Fullerton) at 2:44 in the second overtime, giving the Seawolves their first CCAA Men's Soccer Championship in the program's history and keeping their hopes for an NCAA playoff bid alive.

The Toros, now at 16-4-2, dominated the game at the start, outshooting the Seawolves 15-4 in the first 45 minutes of play. Sophomore forward Kei Kamara (Lawndale, CA/Leuzinger HS), who finished with nine shots in the game, nearly gave CSUDH a quick lead at the 15:00 mark, blasting a 20-yard shot off the crossbar, where it was cleared by the Sonoma State defense. Just four minutes later, Jesse Graham blasted an indirect free kick less than a foot above the crossbar, keeping the game scoreless in the first half.

After intermission, the Seawolves (12-8-2) narrowed the offensive gap, tallying five shots to the Toros' seven. CSUDH had multiple opportunities in close, but were whistled for offsides as they tallied nine in the contest.

In the first extra frame, both sides tallied two shots, but Polak and SSU goalkeeper Clark Rupp were able to keep the opposing offenses at bay.

In the second extra period, the Seawolves took advantage of the first opportunity that present itself. Taking a pass from Eric Larson, Maycock dribbled up the right side and sent the ball to Morrow, who dashed up the weak side. Taking the pass in stride, Morrow connected on the one-timer past Polak, giving SSU its first CCAA Men' Soccer Championship.

The Toros outshot the Seawolves 25-12, but were out-corner kicked 2-1 in the extra periods, while the teams were whistled for 39 total fouls. Polak was credited with five saves compared to six by Rupp.

CSUDH, currently the NCAA's top seed in the Far West Region, now pins its hopes on the selection committee in terms of seed, the first round location, and its opponent, all of which will be announced on Monday, November 7.
