ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State played one of
their best halves of basketball in recent memory, then held on for
a 79-68 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night in
Rohnert Park. The Seawolves shot nearly 70% in the first half and
over 60% for the game as they improve to 2-3, 2-0 CCAA. The loss
drops the Toros mark to 1-4, 1-1 CCAA.
Tied at ten just under four minutes into the
game, the Seawolves went on a 13-3 run over the next four minutes,
one of many runs they would enjoy in the contest. SSU shot
18-of-27 (.667) in the first half and hit nine of their eleven
free throws.
The Toros came out charging in the second half,
cutting the Seawolf lead to just five at 61-56 with 10:22 to go.
From there, Sonoma State went on a 12-0 run before CSUDH would
score again. Another 6-0 run following the Toro bucket would ice
the game and send SSU to their second conference win in as many
nights.
Vince Inglima led the Seawolves with 19
points on 7-of-11 shooting. Patrick Mitchell had a superb
game in just his second outing of the year, finishing with 11
points and six assists. Paige Dumont set a career-high
with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.
Jonathan Toliver hit 19 points on five
three-pointers to lead CSUDH. Shamont Brown was the games
leading rebounder with eight.
The Toros return to the hardwood next Saturday
when the team is at San Diego Christian College.
