Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills
sophomore All-American forward Kei Kamara (Lawndale,
CA/Leuzinger HS) has signed a professional contract with Major
League Soccer and will be a part of the MLS Generation adidas
program, a partnership designed to identify and nurture the elite
youth soccer talent in the United States as part of an agreement
signed in November 2004 between the MLS and adidas.
Playing professionally has been
my dream and Ive been working on it for so long,
Kamara said of starting his professional career. I am
thankful to the CSUDH coaches and to the players Ive been
able to play with. My two years have been a great experience and
the soccer program is family to me, but the time has come. I am
very excited.
Kamara, who led the Toros with 15 goals, six
assists, 36 points and nine game-winning goals this season, was
named a Third-Team All-American after leading the Toros to the
2005 Far West Region Championship, a scintillating 2-1 overtime
victory over then-No. 5 ranked Seattle Pacific, and an NCAA
quarterfinal contest against undefeated and eventual NCAA DII Mens
Soccer Champion Fort Lewis College.
The Toros, who posted a 17-5-2 overall and
9-3-2 CCAA record, reached the NCAA playoffs for the
sixth-consecutive season and seventh time overall.
In addition to his first All-American honor,
Kamara has earned two First-Team All-West Region accolades, two
First-Team All-CCAA nods and a 2004 CCAA MVP selection in his two
seasons as a Toro.
As a program and for myself, were
extremely happy for Kei to move onto the next level, says
CSUDH mens soccer head coach Joe Flanagan. We
obviously wouldve loved to keep Kei around as part of the
program, but for him to move on says a lot about him as a player
and a lot about our program. We do lose a great player but having
someone move to that level will be good for our program in the
long run. We wish him the best of luck.
Kamara will take part in the MLS combine from
January 12-15, 2006, at the Home Depot Center on the campus of Cal
State Dominguez Hills. |
