SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State San Bernardino's
men's basketball team recorded a 71-57 CCAA victory over visiting
Cal State Dominguez Hills before 909 fans on Cheerleader Camp
Night in Coussoulis Arena.
The Coyotes are now 7-7 on the season thanks to
winning all five home games this month to improve to 6-2 in the
CCAA. The Toros dropped to 4-10 overall and 2-6 in the CCAA.
Carlos Rivers led the Toros with 17 points
while Trevon Bryant finished 13 points and a team-high seven
rebounds. Nonso Nibo was four-for-four from beyond the arc and
finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
Junior Moses Gonzalez led the Coyotes with 16
points while junior Yoseph Yaisrael had 12 points and senior James
Perkins 10 in a balanced attack. Leading scorer Curtis Williams
finished with just three pionts and took only two shots in the
game. Chet Johnson had nine points and a team-high five rebounds
and three steals.
The Coyotes hit 12 of 24 three-pointers (50
percent) and shot 48 percent for the game (26 of 54). Dominguez
Hills hit seven of 10 bombs (70 percent) and shot 40 percent (20
of 50). The teams combined for 33 turnovers.
The Coyotes led by six at the half, 35-29, but
came out shooting in the second half. Jason Breland hit a
three-pointer to punctuate a 10-3 run for a 45-32 lead with 16:14
left in the game. The Toros cut the margin to seven at 47-40 on a
three-point play by Nibo with 13:43 left.
However, the Coyotes outscored Dominguez Hills
18-7 over the next seven minutes to open up a 65-47 lead with 6:49
to play, capped by a dunk by Kenneth Barnes on a pass from
Johnson.
The Coyotes never trailed in the game, but the
Toros got within one at 30-29 with 3:41 left in the first half.
The Toros are home next Wednesday night to Cal
Poly Pomona. |
