Complete Box Scores
vs. Hawaii-Hilo vs.
Montana State
Billings
Phoenix, AZ -- Seniors Cindy Perry-Brown
(Victorville, CA/Silverado HS) and Pebbel Prestwood
(Hesperia, CA/CS Stanislaus) combined with junior hurler Kristine
Minter (Chula Vista, CA/Hampton University) for a 7-0 blanking
of Hawaii-Hilo in the early game, while senior Jackie Miller
(Bremerton, WA/CS Stanislaus) used both her bat and arm in a
12-0 drubbing of Montana State Billings in the nightcap as CSUDH
remained perfect at 6-0 on the season with two wins on the final
day of the Grand Canyon Tournament.
The Toros scored single runs in the 2nd and 4th
innings of the opener, before breaking the game open with three
runs in the 5th and two in the 6th against Hawaii-Hilo. In the
5th, a Perry-Brown triple started the festivities, and was
followed by RBIs from Lori Moreno (Los Angeles, CA/California
HS), Kate Groden (San Pedro, CA/SE Missouri) and Linda
Reyes (Garden Grove, CA/St. John's). In the next inning,
another Perry-Brown hit began the run-fest, as Miller brought her
home with her second home run of the season to put an end to the
scoring.
That would be more than enough for Minter, who
picked up her first win as a Toro (1-0). The Chula Vista native
scattered just six hits in her complete-game win, fanning five
batters against no walks, retiring a stretch of seven-consecutive
Vulcans at one point.
Offensively, Perry-Brown and Prestwood each
tallied three hits in the win, while Miller and Reyes each drove
in a pair of runs.
In the late game against MSUB, the Toros wasted
little time in putting runs on the board, scoring three runs in
the 1st, five in the 3rd and four in the 4th to put the game away.
Miller again led the charge with a booming home run as part of her
two-hit, two-RBI afternoon, while Groden and Prestwood each
crossed home plate three times in the rout.
Miller was the beneficiary of the run support,
logging her third shutout in as many days to improve to 3-0. The
senior hurler allowed just two hits while fanning seven, facing
just 14 batters in her 4.0 innings pitched.
The Toros return to Phoenix next weekend to
partake in the GCU Lead Off Classic Tournament, where they will
face Adams State College and Montana State Billings on Thursday,
February 16 on day one of the three-day tournament. |
