With the loss the Toros have dropped four in a
row, and fall to 13-11, 8-10 CCAA. With the victory, UCSD improves
to 21-4, 15-3 CCAA.
Right from the start UCSD jumped in front and
stayed in front of the Toros, slowly building an 11-point lead
over the first five minutes of play. The CCAAs leading
scorer, Leora Juster, would get off to a fast start, scoring nine
points during the run.
CSUDH chipped away at the lead, using a 12-4
run over a five-minute span to come within two at 32-30, as four
different Toros would contribute during the run, with Jessica
Liang (Alhambra, CA/Mark Keppel HS) capping off the spurt with a
three-point make.
The Tritons would bring the Toro run to a
screeching halt with 2:23 left on a three by Kim Buffum, followed
by four more points to end the half with a 39-30 advantage over
the Toros.
After the intermission, Blue would score nine
points over the first 10 minutes to evaporate the Triton lead to
just one at 46-45 with 9:14 left. Freshman Ennisha Kyles (Los
Angeles, CA/Mast HS) would be instrumental during the run, scoring
two points and pulling down five rebounds, with three coming at
the offensive end.
UCSD would respond with a pair of free throws
by Katie Anderson, but, Blue would find Alana Bailey (Altadena,
CA/John Muir HS) under the basket to cut the lead back to one at
the 7:09 mark.
However, that would be the last of what the
Toros had, as they would miss six of their last 10 shots, and turn
the ball over four times as UCSD added to their lead.
Juster would lead the trio of Tritons in double
figures with 26 points, while Hillary Hansen and Briana Hinga
chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively.
In addition to Blues 22 points, Bailey
would contribute eight points and four rebounds. Kyles would chip
in six points and nine rebounds in the effort, while Adiana
Vega-Howard (Covina, CA/Northview HS) closed out her three-year
Toro career with an exclamation point, coming off the bench and
nailing a trey.
The Toros wrap up their 2005-06 season next
week as the travel to Cal Poly Pomona on Wednesday, and Cal State
Monterey Bay on Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for both games at
5:30 p.m. This will mark the end of four Toro careers as Tameka
Blue, Adiana Vega-Howard, Celeste Haueter, and Brandi McGinest
will play their final games |
