Carson, CA Cal State Dominguez Hills
junior guard Shamont Brown (Jamaica, NY/Riverside CC) was
named a Second-Team All-CCAA selection, it was announced this
afternoon by the California Collegiate Athletic Association
office.
Brown finished the 2005-06 campaign averaging
12.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals per contest,
leading a resurgent Toros squad that finished the season 11-16 and
8-12 CCAA, one year removed from a 7-20, 6-14 CCAA ledger in
2004-05. Amongst the CCAA leaders, Brown finished 6th in field
goal percentage (54%), 10th in rebounds, T12th in steals, 16th in
assists and 18th in scoring.
The New York native was only one of two Toros
to see action in all 27 games, and the only Toro to garner 23
starts, averaging a team-high 32.1 minutes of action per contest.
Brown led CSUDH in rebounds 12 times, in assists on six occasions
and in scoring five times. He also notched five games with at
least 20 points, and scored in double figures on 15 occasions.
In the final weekend of the regular season,
Brown averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals as the
Toros won their final two games at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State
Monterey Bay, shooting a blistering 56% from the field.
Brown is expected to lead a talented group of
seniors in 2006-07 as the Toros look to make a dent in the
always-competitive CCAA Conference.
