Carson, CA Cal State Dominguez Hills
senior guard Tameka Blue (Watsonville, CA/Santa Cruz HS) was named
to the Second-Team All-West Region squad for the second time in
her career, it was announced earlier by the NCAA. It was a fitting
conclusion to a four-year career that saw Blue become CSUDHs
all-time leading scorer.
Earlier this week, the Watsonville native also
picked up her third First-Team All-CCAA accolade.
Blue finished the 2005-06 season averaging 17.9
points and 5.1 assists per contest, good for the 3rd- and 2nd-best
totals in the CCAA, respectively, and recorded twelve 20-plus
point performances while scoring in double figures in 22 of 26
games. In addition, Blue set career records for assists (534) and
free throw percentage (.802).
The 57 playmaker became the leading
scorer in CSUDH history on March 4, 2006, a 79-57 win at Cal State
Monterey Bay in the season finale. In front of a contingent of
family and friends who made the short trip down from the
Watsonville and Oakland area, Blue eclipsed Faye Hagans mark
on a jumper with 17:34 remaining in the second half and, as the
Toros all-time career free throw percentage leader, fittingly
converted the foul shot for the old-fashioned 3-point play. Blue
would end the game with 15 points, setting the new benchmark in
career scoring with 1,470 points.
Blue has collected a shelf full of awards in
her record-setting four-year career as a Toro. In addition to her
two awards this season, Blue also was named CCAA Freshman of the
Year in 2002-03 en route to earning First-Team All-CCAA honors.
Last season, she was voted a First-Team All-CCAA selection and a
Second-Team All-West Region honoree.
