Tezeno Earns All-America Honors in 60-Meter Hurdles at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships
March 11, 2006

Day One Recap

Boston, MA – Cal State Dominguez Hills freshman hurdler Granada “Meia” Tezeno (Hercules, CA/Hercules HS) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdle finals this afternoon as she garnered her first-career All-America honor at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which was held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center and hosted by Stonehill College

Tezeno broke the tape in a time of 8.68 seconds, mirroring her qualifying time from the previous day’s race and finishing just 0.03 seconds away from third position.

“I thought the start could’ve been better, but I was pleased,” said Tezeno on today’s stellar effort. “I was shooting for the top 5, and it was exciting.”

St. Augustine junior Marquita Davis took the national title and broke the meet record by one tenth of a second in a time of 8.44 seconds, while Lincoln University freshman Carla Thomas, who posted the fastest preliminary time in yesterday’s heats, finished second in a time of 8.55.

Said CSUDH track and field head coach Warren Edmonson on his freshman All-American, “I was very impressed how well she performed as a freshman, and the fact that she’s an All-American representing Cal State Dominguez Hills is outstanding.”

This marks the second straight year the Toros fielded an All-American in this event, with Lynnae Samuels earning the honor last year.

The Toros continue their outdoor season on Saturday, March 18, traveling to San Diego to compete in the Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State University.
