Emporia, KS -- Junior hurdles specialist Alexandria
Anderson (Moreno Valley, CA/Cal State L.A.) matched her
personal best effort of 13.90 in the finals of the 100-meter
hurdles Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field
Championships, hosted by Emporia State University. Anderson
finished 6th to take home her first-career All-America honor in a
fitting conclusion to the 2006 outdoor season.
After running 13.91 in yesterday's heat, the
Moreno Valley native pushed herself to an actual time of 13.896 in
edging Adams State's TiaNiecia Mosley, who crossed the line in
exactly 13.90 seconds for 7th place.
"It feels great," said
Anderson of her accomplishment. "I've been training hard and
I was just excited and happy. There were things that could've been
better, but I put my best foot forward today. I'm happy, but I'm
not satisfied," she concluded, looking ahead to next year's
nationals.
Lynnsey Dailey of Fort Valley State defended
her crown in the 100 hurdles in a time of 13.46, and was followed
by Lincoln's Carla Thomas and Cal State L.A.'s Jamilah St. Cyr. UC
San Diego's Laiah Blue finished 5th in a time of 13.88, giving the
talented CCAA Conference three of the top six performances in this
event.
"I think she's come a long way,"
begins CSUDH track and field head coach Warren Edmonson. "She
was a walk-on at CSULA and coach Cecric Hill got her together and
it paid off. She did great, just outstanding."
Anderson's All-America honor gives the Toros 12
All-America honors in the past five years, highlighted by four
accolades in both 2002 and 2005. With her finish, it is the
second-consecutive year in which a Toro has earned the honor in
the 100-meter hurdles following former Toro great Lynnae Samuels'
runner-up performance in 2005. |
