Well, we are almost there! This weekend we are
going to Turlock, CA, home of Cal State Stanislaus, to try and
defend our CCAA Championship. The team is very excited to be
playing in the CCAA playoffs, but we are not looking forward to
the five to six hour bus ride and also missing another day of
school on Thursday.
Also, remembering from the last time I played
on the Warriors' home field, the field was in pretty bad shape.
They also have pretty rowdy fans, who try to bother us the whole
game. And, this year, they will be using portable lights, which
cannot be very good. However, our team will get through this. We
have overcome many obstacles throughout the season and we can
overcome this one, too.
If we can get by the the Warriors on Friday, we
will then take on either the San Diego Tritons or the Chico State
Wildcats on Sunday to defend our CCAA. Winning on Sunday would be
a great early 21st birthday present for me (Monday, November 7)!
After coming back from Bakersfield last weekend
with a loss, our team is definitely ready for this tournament.
Hopefully we will come out of this weeked with two wins, and get
to play in the NCAA playoffs.
Our coach talked to us this at practice, first
about the incident at Bakersfield, and then about our standings
for the NCAA Playoffs. Coach Joe informed us that basically we
control our own destiny. If we lose our first game on Friday, then
our chances do not look very good for the NCAA playoffs. But if we
win and also win on Sunday, then we will most likely be going to
Seatle the following weekend. So, the Toros need to bring their "A"
game this weekend and bring the Conference Championship home on
Sunday!!
Our coach left us with some words of wisdom
that Tuesday at practice:
"In the begining of the season we
(the coaches) were driving the bus and you (the players) were in
the back seat. Now that we have taught you all that we know, you
need to take our knowledge and your skill and heart and play to
the best of your ability. If you do that, you will win. We have
done all that we could do to help the team. Now you are in the
driver's seat and we are all along for the ride."
