SEATTLE, Wash. The fifth-ranked
Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros cooled off the Seattle University
offense and capitalized on their own scoring chances to defeat the
Redhawks, 3-0, Thursday afternoon in mens soccer action at
Championship Field.
Dominguez Hills took a 1-0 lead in the 31st
minute as Sammy Rivas bounced a header towards the net that was
batted away by Seattle goalie Chris Sorensen (Seattle, Wash.). The
ball bounced in front of the net, where Mario Guerrero was waiting
to tap it into the net to put the Toros on top.
In the second half, the Toros continued to
pressure the Seattle defense, converting in the 63rd minute when
Julio Madrigal found a streaking Jose Serpas, who chipped the ball
into the net to give Dominguez Hills a 2-0 lead. Dominguez Hills
picked up an insurance goal late when Rivas found Jesse Graham in
perfect position to send the ball past Sorensen and into the net.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-0) outshot Seattle
14-12, including eight shots on goal versus Seattles four
shots on goal. Kyle Polak started the match in net and picked up
two saves, and then Derby Carrillo relieved him after halftime and
earned one save in the second half. Sorensen finished with five
saves for the Redhawks.
The Toros return home for a Tuesday (Sept. 5)
match when Grand Canyon's men come calling. Start is 7:00 p.m. |
