SAN BERNARDINO -- Five different
players shared in the scoring Friday as Cal State Dominguez Hills,
ranked No. 9 in the Far West Region, shut out Cal State San
Bernardino, 5-0, in a CCAA women's soccer match at Coyote Premier
Field.
The Toros improved to 7-7-1 overall and 6-4-1
in the CCAA while the Coyotes dropped to 1-12-1 overall and 0-10-1
in the CCAA.
Dominguez Hills outshot the Coyotes 17-8 but
Toros goalkeeper Ashley De Alejandro was required to save only two
tries on goal.
Jackie Chavez opened the scoring for the Toros
with a shot into the upper net off a through ball from Corrie
Hirokawa just 6:44 into the match. Hirokawa then scored for the
Toros in the 26th minute off an assist from Natalie Moreno.
The Coyotes changed goalkeepers at the half but
Shawna Rei-Kam could not prevent the Toros from tacking on three
goals after Laura Lyons had yielded the first two.
Rachele McDonald scored her team-leading ninth
goal in the 50th minute and Kristin Boskovich made it 4-0 in the
69th minute with a shot past Kam from a through ball delivered by
Hirokawa.
Renee Haynes completed the scoring with an
18-yard shot in the 77th minute off a pass from Boskovich.
The Coyotes' winless streak was extended to 13
matches as they prepare to face Far West Region No.1 UC San Diego
on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at home.
