Carson, CA - Senior Valarie Tucker (Downey,
CA/ El Camino CC) did what she has done all season long as she
led the Toros cross-country team with the lowest time for
CSUDH. Tucker would cross the finish line of the 6k race in a time
of 26:25.4, placing 54th.
Freshman Brittany Masai (Torrance, CA/West
HS) would have a strong showing in her first CCAA
Championship, finishing in a time of 27:10.9 to place 59th.
Overall, Chico State would claimed the CCAA
title with a score of 34, finishing ahead of Cal State L.A. (46)
and host UC San Diego (63).
Chico States Mary Torres would take the
individual championship as she finished the 6,000-meter course
first in a time of 22:41.30. Torres teammate Sarah Montez
was just two steps behind with a second place time of 22:42.10.
Cal State L.A.s Karla Alburez came in third (23:06.00),
followed by Diane Dunn (23:15.30) of UC San Diego, with Chico
States Lindsay Nelson (23:21.40) rounded out the top five.
The Top-15 finishers received All-CCAA honors
with the winner, with Torres being named the CCAA Most Valuable
Athlete of the Year. Erica Van Voast of San Francisco State earned
Freshman of the Year, while Maribel Cespedes of Cal State L.A.
received the Newcomer of the Year honors, and Chico States
Gary Towne was named the Coach of the Year.
