San Francisco, Calif.--- The visiting
22nd-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros men's soccer team
(13-6-1, 9-6-1 CCAA) spoiled the San Francisco State University
Gators senior day by defeating SF State (7-9-4, 4-8-4 CCAA)
3-1 Sunday afternoon in both teams' regular season finale at Cox
Stadium.
Jesse Graham put the Toros on the board first
when he connected on an unassisted goal nine minutes into the
first half. At the 20:07 mark, Brett Boysen tied the match at 1-1
when he connected on his fourth goal of the season on a penalty
kick.
The match remained tied at 1-1, until Kyle
Holland scored his first goal of the season off a free kick from
Humberto Lopez and a pass from Jose Serpas one minute into the
second half. Graham sealed the victory for the Toros when he
scored his second goal of the match late in the second half.
Kyle Polak recorded four saves in goal for
CSUDH while Ezra Mendoza had six saves in goal for SF State.
Ironically, the Toros needed help today from
their semifinal opponent in Sonoma State, and got it as the
Seawolves downed Chico State 2-1 in overtime to propel CSUDH to
the CCAA tournament.
Earlier this season, the Toros took a
convincing 5-0 decision over Sonoma State in their only meeting, a
payback of sorts after the Seawolves pounded the Toros 6-0 in the
regular season last season, and took a 1-0 double overtime win for
the 2005 CCAA Title a month later.
CSUDH and SSU lock horns in Friday's second
men's semifinal, with first kick scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Triton
Field in La Jolla, California.
