Cal State Dominguez Hills Selected to Host First Round of NCAA D-II Men’s Soccer Far West Region Playoffs

Carson, CA -- The NCAA announced today that Cal State Dominguez Hills has been selected to host the 2006 NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Far West Regional Playoffs, the second-consecutive season CSUDH has been awarded hosting duties.

The top-seeded Toros, who gained that distinction after claiming the CCAA title with victories over Sonoma State and Cal State L.A. last weekend, will play 4th-seeded Seattle University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2. That contest follows the 4:00 p.m. match-up featuring 2nd-seeded Seattle Pacific and 3rd-seeded Cal State L.A.

The winners of both Thursday contests will square off for the 2006 Far West Region Title on Saturday, November 4, with first kick scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Toro Stadium.

CSUDH, currently at 15-6-1 and ranked No. 22 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, will be making its seventh-consecutive NCAA postseason appearance. The Toros claimed their seventh CCAA Title by virtue of a 2-1 win over Cal State L.A., two days after dethroning Sonoma State in a double-overtime 2-1 semifinal thriller.

On the season, 1st-team All-CCAA selections Jesse Graham (San Diego, CA/Pt. Loma HS) and Sammy Rivas (Long Beach, CA/CS Fullerton) lead the Toros offense, combining for 15 goals and 9 assists on the season, while fellow 1st-team All-CCAA honoree Kyle Polak (Huntington Beach, CA/CS Fullerton) has been stellar between the posts, allowing just 0.76 goals per game while tallying 13 wins and nine shutouts on the year.

“It’s great to host and represent the West Region,” CSUDH men’s soccer head coach Joe Flanagan begins. “I think we’ve played well at home in the past and since we’ve been traveling a lot the past couple of weekends, it’s going to be good to spend the weekend at home.”

Ticket prices for both days are as follows:

  • Adults - $6.00
  • Students w/ current ID - $3.00
  • Seniors & Children (12 & Under) - $3.00
