Carson, CA - Cal State Dominguez Hills senior
forward Rachele McDonald (Ventura, CA/Buena HS) has been chosen to
the National Soccer Coaches Association of Americas Far West
Region 2nd-team, the NSCAA announced earlier today. This marks the
3rd-consecutive year that McDonald, the 2006 Daktronics Far West
Region Player of the Year and two-time California Collegiate
Athletic Association (CCAA) MVP, was named to the NSCAAs
all-region squad after earning 1st-team selections the previous
two seasons.
McDonald, who earlier this month was selected
the Daktronics MVP and who last month claimed her second CCAA MVP
honor in three years, helped the Toros to an 11-8-1 overall and
10-5-1 CCAA record in 2006. The crafty forward led the CCAA in
points with 34, tied for the league lead in assists with eight,
and placed second with 13 goals, becoming just the second player
to win the leagues top award twice after Cal Poly Pomonas
Ruth Vant Land first accomplished the feat in 1998 and 2000.
Closing her collegiate career in a 2-1 overtime
win at San Francisco State on October 22, the Ventura native sits
5th in CSUDHs record book for career points (90), is tied
for 5th in career goals (33) and is tied for 6th with former
All-America Heather Rolland in career assists (24). McDonald also
is in the top 10 for single-season records, is tied for 2nd in
assists (12 in 2005), 9th in points and 10th in goals.
In all, 10 CCAA student-athletes were selected
out of 23 total, with CCAA Champion UC San Diego garnering the
most 1st-team selections with three.
Next season, the Toros return 18
letter-winners, eight starters as well as their starting keeper,
and look to send their 12 seniors back to the CCAA and NCAA
postseason tournaments.
