December 18, 2006

Complete Box Score

Carson, CA - Junior sharp-shooter Jessica Liang (Alhambra, CA/Mark Keppel HS) paced CSUDH with four long- range bombs as she garnered game-high scoring honors with 14 points to lead the Toros over Notre Dame de Namur, 61-44, in the Torodome. With the win, the Toros improve to 4-2 overall, while Notre Dame de Namur is still left searching for its first win at 0-8.

The Argonauts would strike first on a free throw by Darice Murray in the first 10 seconds of the game, but that would be the only lead they would have for the rest of the contest.

Senior Ree Browne (Torrance, CA/South Torrance HS) would counter with a jumper off a steal by Brittney Blankenship (Palmdale, CA/Palmdale HS) and the Toros would be off and running.

CSUDH’s lead would reach double digits at 19-9 with 7:10 on the clock, courtesy of a bucket by Whitney Gantt (Sacramento, CA/Woodcreek HS) off the bench.

A layup by Aujaneé Baldwin (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda HS) with just under two minutes left in the first half would put CSUDH up 20, and a pair of free throws by Blankenship a minute later would secure the 20-point lead for the Toros at 35-15 heading into the locker room.

In the first frame CSUDH would use a combination of solid shooting and good defense, nailing 50% from the floor and causing 16 Argonaut turnovers.

CSUDH would keep on rolling after intermission and extend its lead to 25 at 48-23 after Michele Hale (Los Angeles, CA/Cal State Monterey Bay) dished the ball to a cutting Unique Bennett (San Bernardino, CA/Chaffey College) at the 14 minute mark.

The Toro lead would crescendo to 27 points at 56-29 on a layup by Blankenship with 9:38 remaining in the game.

NDDN would fight hard during the final three minutes and cut the Toro lead to 17 when the final buzzer sounded.

Overall, CSUDH would cause 26 NDDN turnovers, leading to a 31-9 points-off-turnover advantage for the Toros.

Ashley Wilson led the Argonauts with nine points, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, while Ramona Vae chipped in eight points and Jennifer Dreessen pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

In addition to Liang’s 14 points, Alana Bailey (Altadena, CA/John Muir HS), Brigayle Iglehart (San Diego, CA/Grossmont College), and Baldwin would all add eight points in the win.

CSUDH will next be in action on Friday and Saturday, December 29 & 30, when they participate in the Cal State Stanislaus Tournament, taking on Colorado State-Pueblo and University of Minnesota-Crookston, with both games slated for 5:30 pm tip-offs.
