San Francisco, Calif.--- The visiting Cal State
Dominguez Hills Toros (7-9, 4-7 CCAA) defeated the San Francisco
State University Gators mens basketball team, 79-51,
Saturday evening in CCAA action at SF States Main Gymnasium.
With the loss, SF State falls to 5-11 overall and 1-10 in the
CCAA.
The Toros jumped out to a 16-5 lead in the
first four minutes of the game keyed by Cal State Dominguez Hills
going four for five from three-point range. SF State twice cut the
Toro lead to single digits in the first half, but the visitors
finished the half on a 12-4 run in the last five minutes.
Cal State Dominguez Hills increased its lead to
25 (60-35) at the 15:04 mark of the second half and never looked
back as the Toros cruised to a 79-51 CCAA road victory led by Gabe
Bernards 21 points off the bench. He was 6 of 9 from the
field including 5 of 6 from three-point land.
Nonso Nibo added 17 points for the visitors
while Shamont Brown chipped in 10 points for the Toros, who shot
48% from the field including 57% from threes. They also
out-rebounded SF State 33-30 and forced 29 turnovers by the Gators
while recording 16 steals (four each by Nibo and Mike Steed).
Cal State Dominguez Hills continues its road
play next week with a Thursday-Saturday duo of games, starting
with Chico State, then finishing with Cal State Stanislaus.
