Carson, CA - With wins over Cal State Monterey
Bay and San Francisco State last week, and having won four of
their last five games, the Toros womens basketball team has
moved up three spots to No. 4 in the West Region, it was announced
this afternoon by the NCAA in the second regional poll of the
year.
The Toros currently hold a 10-3 Division II
record and an in-region record of 9-3.
Over the next two weeks the Toros playoff fate
should begin to unfold as they take on the three top teams in the
region in Chico State tomorrow night, UC San Diego on Tuesday, and
Humboldt State next Friday.
In the first half of the season, the Toros
pulled out a 73-54 win over Chico State (12/2), but suffered a
loss at home to UC San Diego (12/16) and a loss on the road to
Humboldt State (1/6).
Last weekend against CSUMB and SFSU, the junior
duo of Alana Bailey (Altadena, CA/John Muir HS) and Brittney
Blankenship (Palmdale, CA/Palmdale HS) combined for 28.5 points
and 13.5 rebounds per game as CSUDH swept their northern
California foes.
The Toros resident sharp-shooter Jessica
Liang (Alhambra, CA/Mark Keppel HS) also made her presence felt,
averaging 11 points while hitting a pair of long-range bombs in
both games. Liang currently sits atop the CCAA in 3-point field
goal percentage (39.6) and 3-point shots made per game (2.5), and
is ranked in the top-40 in the nation in both categories.
