TURLOCKThe Cal State Stanislaus mens
basketball team pulled off an 83-81 come-from-behind win over
visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday night in CCAA action
at Warrior Arena.
After the Warriors looked as if they spent all
the gas in their tanks on Fridays four-OT loss, the team
managed to scrape back from a 16-point deficit and capped it off
with a three-point shot by Kenyata Madison in the final 30 seconds
to pull ahead by one point, 82-81, with 22 seconds left.
The Toros would have two shots at the basket
before the Warriors were able to grab the rebound and the ensuing
foul send Calvin Westbrook to the free-throw line to extend the
Warriors lead with just over a second left in the game.
Westbrook would convert 1-for-2 to give the
Warriors the two-point edge and secure the win. The Warriors are
now 11-10 overall and 7-7 in the CCAA while the Toros drop to 8-10
overall and 5-8 in the CCAA.
Once again, it was a rounded effort among the
lineup for the Warriors with Cameron Quick leading the way with 23
points to go with seven rebounds. Marcus Martinez and Madison were
the only other Warriors to hit double-figure points at 13 and 11
points respectively.
Carlos Rivers led the way for the Toros,
scoring 19 points. Jamaal Barnes posted 19 and Mike Steed had 17.
After free throws proved to be the downfall of
the Warriors in other games, it proved to be the savior tonight.
The Warriors shot 19-for-23 from the charity stripe to the Toros
13-for-20 night.
The Toros return to the court again next
Tuesday, playing at UC San Diego.
