Carson, CA - In a battle between two of the top teams in the West Region, Alana Bailey (Altadena, CA/John Muir HS) led three Toros in double figures with 19 points and eight rebounds as CSUDH ended its three-game losing streak with a 68-59 win over Humboldt State. With the win CSUDH improves to 11-8, 8-7 CCAA the while ‘Jacks fall to 14-6, 9-6 CCAA.

It would be a tight contest early between the West Region’s No. 5 seed ‘Jacks and the No. 9 Toros, with the two teams knotted at 12-12 after five minutes of play.

The Toros would finally gain some separation with 7:59 on the clock on a free throw by Ennisha Kyles (Los Angeles, CA/USC Mast HS) to put CSUDH up six at 20-14.

HSU would cut the Toro lead in half after a jumper by Katie Wilder, and would follow with a free throw on their next possession.

The Toro lead would jump back up to six on a trey by Jessica Liang (Alhambra, CA/Mark Keppel HS), only to see Jennifer Enos counter with a long range bomb of her own to put HSU within three at 23-20 with just under three minutes left.

The Toros would use a 7-0 run over the next two minuets to take the game’s first double-digit lead, but the ‘Jacks would use a pair of free throws and a layup by Wilder to close the gap to just six heading into the break.

After intermission the ‘Jacks would take control of the game, grabbing the lead at 40-39 with 13:43 on the clock on a jumper by Kristina O’Keefe.

HSU would hold the lead until a layup by Aujaneé Baldwin (Fontana, CA/Etiwanda HS) at the 4:38 mark gave the Toros the lead at 56-55.

CSUDH would hold off the ‘Jacks by hitting eight free throws down the stretch to come away with the win and avenge their earlier season loss to HSU.

HSU was led by Wilder’s 19 points, while Mia Spasowska and Enos were also in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

In addition to Bailey’s 19 points and eight boards, Brigayle Iglehart (San Diego, CA/Grossmont College) chipped in 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Liang would be the final Toro in double figures with 10 points and five rebounds.
