Carson, CA – Sharp-shooter Jessica Liang (Alhambra, CA/Mark Keppel HS) lit up the Golden Eagles for the second time this season, nailing seven three-point shots for a game-high 21 points as the Toros ran over the shorthanded Golden Eagles 69-41. With the win, CSUDH keeps its post season hopes alive and improves to 12-9 overall and 9-8 CCAA, while CSULA falls to 3-19, 1-16 CCAA.

The two teams would be close to begin the game, knotted at 9-9 after a trey by Liang with 15:47 on the clock.

With the Toros up two with 12:50 remaining, CSUDH would use a 17-2 run, capped off by a Unique Bennett (San Bernardino, CA/Chaffey College) trey, over the next seven minutes to break the game wide open and to go up 30-13 with 5:29 left in the first half.

The Toro lead would reach as much as 19 with just under two minutes left before the half, settling for a 34-17 advantage at the break.

A lay-up by Alan Bailey (Altadena, CA/John Muir HS) would push the Toro lead to 20 with 12:48 on the clock after intermission.

Liang would keep the pressure on the CSULA defense, knocking down three more treys over the next eight minutes, with her final bomb extending the Toro lead to 30 points at 67-37.

CSUDH would add one final bucket before the buzzer sounded to cruise to the 69-41 win.

CSULA was led by Rachel Ottovich’s double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Fatimah Stokley chipped in 12 points in the effort.

In addition to Laing’s 21 points, Michelle Kribell (Buena Park, CA/Western HS) chipped in nine points and Bailey added eight points and seven rebounds. Overall nine different Toros would score as the CSUDH defense forced 21 Golden Eagle turnovers.

CSUDH continues its CCAA Conference home stand tomorrow as it battles Division I-bound Cal State Bakersfield, with first tip scheduled for 5:30 pm in the Torodome.
