Bonsall, CA Cal State Dominguez Hills
junior Zach Jones (Los Alamitos, CA/University of Hawai'i
Hilo) shot a 17-over 233 to finish tied for 25th place as the
Toros opened their golf season at San Luis Rey Downs, hosted by
Cal State San Marcos in Bonsall, California.
Jones fired a 4-over 76 over the first 18
holes, and followed that performance with a sizzling 1-over 73
this morning. In the afternoon session, Jones found the going a
bit rougher as he ended the round with an 84, finding himself in a
6-way tie for 25th at the day's end.
UCLA's Chris Heintz took the individual crown
by shooting par for the tournament, including a 5-under 67 to
begin play, while host Cal State San Marcos took the team title
with an aggregate score of 902, 38 shots over par and one stroke
better than runner-up Point Loma Nazarene.
As a team, the Toros finished 14th of 14 while
UC San Diego, the only other CCAA school to compete in the Invite,
finished 29 shots off the lead, good for a 6th place finish.
