San Diego, CA -- Day two at Marbella Country
Club proved a bit more challenging for the Toro linksters as
junior Zach Jones (Los Alamitos, CA/University of
Hawai'i-Hilo) fired an 8-over par to finish tied for 42nd
place, concluding the UC San Diego-hosted tournament with a total
score of 229.
Shooting 6-over and 5-over after yesterdays
first day of competition, Jones managed a 78 during the third and
final round, keeping him tied for 42nd at the days end, the
same position in which he began this mornings round. Fellow
junior Raphael Malabanon (Stanton, CA/Cypress College)
shot the lowest score of the day for the Toros with a 77, moving
him up from 70th to T61st for the tournament.
West Floridas Leonardo Di Marino fired a
68 to storm past teammate Matthew Galloway and tie Sonoma States
Jarin Todd for after regulation, but Todd bested DiMarino on the
first playoff hole to take the individual title. Meanwhile, UWFs
1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 11th-place finishes propelled the Argonauts
to the team with an overall score of 838, a full 27 strokes ahead
of runner-up Barry University. As a team, the Toros finished 15th
out of 15 schools competing.
