Carson, CA -- Making return appearances to the
South Bay Athletic Club, CSUDH Athletics Director Patrick Guillen
and mens and womens soccer head coach Joe Flanagan
were the guest speakers at last Fridays South Bay Athletic
Club luncheon, a weekly forum comprised of professionals and
sports buffs from the south bay and surrounding areas.
Reflecting on the progress CSUDH Athletics has
made over the past year, Guillen was introduced by longtime Daily
Breeze columnist Mike Waldner, and spoke about the Toros
great involvement in the community, the athletics departments
dedicated and committed staff and its innovative programs designed
to help fund student-athlete scholarships.
Waldner then passed the microphone to Flanagan,
who shared a few anecdotes about the direction of the soccer
program, the 7th CCAA Championship won by the mens team last
October, and the upcoming womens season which will feature
11 seniors playing their final season in Cardinal & Gold,
including five from the south bay and neighboring areas.
The SBAC, currently in its 42nd year, holds its
luncheons at the South Bay Grill in Torrance, where moderator Fred
Petersen undertakes master of ceremony duties after lunch is
served to its members and their guests of honor.
