San Francisco, Calif..--- The San Francisco
State University softball team split a CCAA doubleheader with
visiting CSU Dominguez Hills (13-12, 5-7 CCAA). The Toros won the
nightcap 3-2 after losing the opener 2-1 to the Gators (15-17,
11-9 CCAA).
Jodi Nakawatase scored the first run of the
game of the opener on a RBI double by Michelle Medina after
opening the inning with a lead-off walk in the first inning. SF
State tied the game in the third inning when Karolyn Gubbine
scored on a bases loaded walk to Kristin Bartholomay in the bottom
of the third after reaching base on an one-out double to center
field.
Nakawatase scored what proved to be the
game-winning run on a Bri Mahr sacrifice fly to left field after
starting the inning reaching base on a lead-off walk. Michelle
Medina (2-0) picked up the win in relief for the Toros, pitching
4.1 innings of scoreless relief while giving up three hits and
striking out one and walking one.
Vanessa Truan fell to 9-7 as she picked up the
loss in relief of Kristine Beristianos. Truan pitched 7 inning of
relief, giving up two hits and one run while striking out 8 and
walking four. Gubbine was 2 for 3 for the Gators while three Toros
each had one hit a piece.
In the night cap, Mahrs one-out two-run
double to left center in the top of the first inning gave the
visiting Toros a 2-0 lead. SF State made it 2-1 in the third
inning, when Gubbine scored on a wild pitch.
Allison Shirleys two-run one out single
through the left side scoring Elissa Reizman and Jordanna Freemer
gave the Gators a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Truan (10-7) retired the Toros, one, two, three
in the top of the seventh to secure the win for the Gators. She
pitched 6.2 innings of relief while giving up two hits and
striking out 6. Vanessa Rodrigue was 2 for 3 for the Gators and
Shirley had two RBIs.
Jennifer Martinez (11-12) picked up the loss
for the Toros, going 5.1 innings, giving up six hits and three
runs while walking three. Mahr was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for CSU
Dominguez Hills.
The two teams will return to the diamond
tomorrow morning for an 11am starting doubleheader at the SFSU
Softball Field. |
