One Recap
Bakersfield, CA Round three of the
CSUB/Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate proved tougher than the first two
for the Toro golf team as junior Zach Jones (Los Alamitos,
CA/University of Hawaii-Hilo) shot an 11-over 83 to
finish tied for 31st as the Cal State Bakersfield-hosted event
came to an end this afternoon.
As a team, CSUDH finished 11th of 12 teams
competing, 12 strokes behind 10th-place Independents, and six
strokes ahead of Montana State-Billings. The host Runners,
who found themselves in a tie for 3rd after yesterdays two
rounds, overtook Cal State San Bernardino and UCLA to take the
team title, besting the Bruins by a single stroke, and the Coyotes
by two.
Individually, Point Loma Nazarene's Sam Cyr
held on to the top spot despite shooting a 6-over 78 on the final
day, finishing a stroke ahead of runner-ups Grant Doverspike of
Fresno State and Charlie Harris of UCLA. Miguel Saucedo
(Culver City, CA/Culver City HS) posted the best round of the
day for the Toros, finishing with a 9-over 81.
