WALNUT CREEK Cal State Dominguez Hills
outfielder Mateo Marquez (Biggs, CA/Cal State L.A.) has
been named Wilson California Collegiate Athletic Association
Baseball Player of the Week for the week of April 2-8.
Marquez, a senior from Biggs, proved to be a
thorn in the side of the Broncos as the Toros took 3-of-4 games
from conference foe Cal Poly Pomona last weekend, giving CSUDH's
first series win of the year. He batted .412 with seven hits
(7-for-17) with three multi-hit and two multi-RBI games. He belted
two home runs with three doubles for a slugging percentage of .941
while posting an on-base percentage of .444.
The leadoff hitter went 2-for-4 and drove in
two runs in Thursday's series opener. After going 1-for-3 through
the first six innings, the Toros centerfielder went yard with a
two-run homer in the eighth to help CSUDH extend its lead before
winning 11-4. In game two of the series in Carson on Friday,
Marquez went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles to set the table for
the Toros in the team's 8-7 win. Then, he would go 4-for-5 with a
grand slam home run in Saturday's game one of the doubleheader in
Pomona in leading CSUDH to a 7-6 win.
