Carson, CA - Toros interim head baseball coach
Murphy Sua took time off recruiting to accept an invitation
by the South Bay Athletic Club and spoke to over 30 members at
their luncheon, held at the South Bay Grill in Torrance.
Preceded by the head softball coach from San
Pedro High School, Tony Dobra, the Daily Breezes Mike Walder
took the podium next to introduce coach Sua to the members
of the South Bay Athletic Club.
Coach Sua touched on the success of the
2006 Toros baseball squad, the struggles of the 2007 team, as well
as some of the challenges facing the players, coaches and the
program as a whole.
The first-year head coach then fielded
questions about recruiting, scholarships and funding while
stressing his desire to see his players not only succeed on the
field, but in the classroom as well, then touching on the joy he
received from training young coaches.
In addition, the former BYU All-American
outlined some new endeavors to help bring some much needed
attention to the CSUDH baseball program, including hosting
pre-draft workouts for the Oakland As and the St. Louis
Cardinals, as well as putting together a Senior All-Star team with
Cal State Monterey Bay head coach Rich Aldrete that would compete
against semi-professional teams such as the Long Beach Armada.
Coach Sua finished his time to a roaring
applause and received a handshake in the one hand a bottle of wine
in the other as he bid the members of the South Bay Athletic Club
farewell.
