Walnut Creek, CA -- Twenty-three Toros,
including eight making repeat appearances, were honored for their
academic achievements by the California Collegiate Athletic
Association (CCAA) and named a 2006-07 All-Academic Award
recipient, it was announced this afternoon by the CCAA.
Individually, golfs Miguel Saucedo
(Culver City, CA/Culver City HS), mens soccers
Shogo Okuma (Okinawa, Japan/ELAC), cross countrys
Janet Ramer (Santa Ana, CA/Santa Ana HS) and Valarie
Tucker (Downey, CA/El Camino College), softballs Christine
Bathauer (Torrance, CA/West HS) and womens soccers
Kristen Boskovich (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA/Peninsula HS),
Candace Hearn (Whittier, CA/Whittier HS) and Sandra
Lloyd (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley HS) again were
recognized after earning this same honor in 2005-06.
Softball fielded the most recipients with six
honorees, with mens soccer placing four student-athletes on
the list. Womens soccer and track and field each placed
three student-athletes on the conference list while two from golf,
cross country and volleyball, and one selection from baseball
rounded out the 23 total Toros named, an overall increase of six
from last years total of 17 Toros who received this
distinction.
In the conference, the Toros placed eighth of
12 schools, with UC San Diego (64), Chico State (45) and Sonoma
State (44) taking the top three places.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a
varsity letter winner who competed in one of 13 CCAA-sponsored
sports during the 2006-07 academic year. Student-athletes must
also have a grade point average of 3.40 or higher in a minimum of
24 semester or 36 quarter units completed at the certifying
institution, with non-graded units able to count towards the 24/36
unit total.
