Scott Davenport, Interim Head Coach

Coach Davenport begins his third season at CSUDH as an assistant coach.

Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Davenport attended Genesee Community College where he led his squad to a league championship en route to earning MVP and all-league honors. After transferring to Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne, he helped the Mastodons earn an NCAA Division I semifinal berth, finishing 4th overall.

In 1995, Davenport moved to California in pursuit of a professional beach volleyball career, which began in 1997 and continues to this day. Over an eight-year career, he has finished ranked in the top 20 on three different occasions. In 2001 alone, he earned six top-nine finishes. Two years prior, Davenport played and served as team co-captain at the Pan American Games for Team USA, where he and his partner earned a 7th-place finish internationally.

Locally, Davenport founded Club Performance Volleyball, a small junior boys and girls volleyball club located in Palos Verdes, CA. He was the head coach of the Palos Verdes Peninsula HS boys program from 2000-03, earning consecutive CIF Bay League Coach of the Year honors. Under his direction, over 20 of his players have earned Division I volleyball scholarships.

A resident of Redondo Beach, Davenport is married to Wendi Dearsman.

Sophia Ahumada, Assistant Coach

After spending the last two seasons on the Toros roster as a player, this 5’0” powerhouse will devote her time this season as an assistant coach.

The coaches agree that the real life mother of one has taken the role of team mom, keeping the players in line.

“She counsels all of the kids, disciplines them, she basically mentors all of the players, and she is unbelievable,” says Davenport.

Ahumada brings much coaching experience to the sidelines, spending the last six years as an assistant coach at Narbonne High School with the boys and girls JV and Varsity teams.

Christine Tran, Assistant Coach

After a stellar two-year career as a Toro in which she recorded 414 kills and 549 digs, begins her first season as a college assistant coach after spending the last three years as the JV boys and girls volleyball coach at Pacifica High School and the past two years as a coach for the Cal Jrs Volleyball Club, working with the 15s and 16s.

In addition to her volleyball coaching duties, Tran also currently works for Spherion, located in Irvine, CA.

Tran, who received a degree in Digital Media Arts-T.V. Production from CSUDH in May 2006, is single and resides in Westminster, CA.
