PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVE

To teach theatre arts and direct productions in a university where I can develop not only students' theatrical talents but also their ability to question and reflect. See also my Mission Statement.

PROFESSOR, California State University, Doming  uez Hills, Carson, CA      1990-2008
Directed the Dominguez Bridge Project (The Little College on a Hill), Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage, the Carson Bridge Project (A House Named Eden by José Cruz González), Antigone, Boy by Diana Son, Twelfth Night, Tales of the Lost Formicans, The Misanthrope, Luminarias by Evelina Fernandez, Harvest Moon by José Cruz González, For Colored Girls, On The Verge, Little Shop of Horrors, Man of the Flesh by Octavio Solis, and Fences. Taught Theatre History, Dramatic Literature, Acting, Directing, Speech, Chicano Theatre, The Power of Masks, Creative Dramatics, and Playwriting.  Served on Outreach, Commencement, Honors, Humanities, and General Studies Review Committees, and Chaired School Curriculum Committee.  Acquired grants to research Hispanic Theatre, Masks, Folktales, and Multicultural Children's Theatre.  Created and produced Theatre Arts Newsletters, Recruitment Brochure, and Subscription Brochures. Adjudicated shows for American College Theatre Festival.  Created a multicultural theatre company, Teatro Dominguez, that performs folklore-based productions in elementary schools and creates plays about diversity for classrooms on and off campus. Created The Dominguez Bridge Theatre Company, composed of faculty, alumni, staff and students dedicated to community-based theatre productions. Developed lecture series, served as a university and department advisor and faculty mentor, and conducted fundraising, publicity, and promotion   for the Theatre Arts Department.  Created and maintained the Theatre Arts Web Site.

DIRECTOR, New Dramatists, New York City 1998
Directed a staged reading and conducted a post-play discussion of The Migrant Farmworker's Son by Silvia Gonzalez.

VISITING PROFESSOR, Montclair State University, New Jersey 1997-98
On a one-year leave of absence from Dominguez Hills, taught Graduate Level Theatre History, BFA Directing, and Introduction to Theatre.  Directed One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.  Served on International Committee for the Arts, auditioned incoming BFA students, supervised student One-Act Festival, produced a Play Reading Series, and conducted Peer Observation Program for New Faculty.

 Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity Program Grant to research Black Theatre and create a CD Rom for use in Theatre Arts classes.

 Funding for Hardware and Software for CD Rom development and creation of a web course (Playwriting on the Internet).

CD Rom of Worldwide Masks 1996
 Faculty Development grant to create a CD Rom of over 400 scanned images of masks used in ritual, theatre, dance, and carnival for use in Humanities classes.

 IRA Grant (Instructionally-Related Activities) from Associated Students to tour folktale performances in local schools with student assistants.
