About CAAPEI
THE CAAPEI IS:
- A research vehicle for studying the political-history of Black elected officials in
California and the economic consequences of their public policy choices.
- A collaborative academic center on the CSUDH campus to engage faculty and
students in creative projects, workshops, seminars and symposia regarding
different dimensions of the American political and economic process.
- A clearinghouse of information regarding issues of political/economic
significance to the Black population in California and the USA as a whole.
- A vehicle to train future young leaders to make ethical, responsible and beneficial
public policy decisions that will exemplify their integrity and demonstrate their
respect for the constituency.
- A reference point for cooperative endeavors between the University and
community-based organizations in Southern California and elsewhere.
- A new beacon of light for the University to attract bright and curious young
minds.A center for the coordination of state, national and international gatherings and
conferences dealing with the political and economic involvement of the Black population in California and the USA.
- A gathering of memoirs, papers, and archives from the 20th and 21st century Black
political and economic leadership in California.
- A center to train students in conducting oral history research and community case
studies.
- An academic organizer of a peer-reviewed periodical, occasional papers and bi-monthly newsletter.
