The Gateways Math-Science Project is funded by a 5-year Department of
Education Title V cooperative grant. Its title, “Opening Academic
Gateways to Science and Technical Professions for Hispanic Students,” is
descriptive of the many activities, goals, and objectives that this
project strives to achieve at both California State University,
Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and Cerritos College (CC). CSUDH serves as the
lead institution to which the grant is awarded. Its partner
institution, CC, is subcontracted by CSUDH to carry out activities
relevant to the grant on that campus. As excerpted from the CSUDH
mission statement: “The university is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic
teaching and learning community dedicated to excellence and committed to
educating a student population of unprecedented diversity for leadership
roles in the global community of the 21st century.
California State University, Dominguez Hills realizes the principles of
educational opportunity and excellence by providing access to a wide
range of educational programs and student-centered services. Building
on its core of liberal arts and sciences, the university offers
programs, in a variety of educational and technological modes, that
enable students to develop intellectually, personally, and
professionally.” The CC mission statement is: “The Cerritos College
Mission is to serve the community by building futures through
learning.” All of the goals and initiatives of the Gateways Project,
listed below, are directed at these farsighted and worthy missions.
