BCLAD Information,
Summer 2008
Below are the
requirements to earn a BCLAD Emphasis
Credential at
CSU, Dominguez Hills.
1. Culture
Exam:

This exam is offered once a month.
Register in the Teacher Education
Office. The cost is $20.00 payable to
CSUDH at the time of the exam. Please
make your check or money order out to
CSUDH. Use the book
Crossings,
by Dr. Max Contreras, to study for the
exam, as part of the exam is based on
this book. The book can be purchased in
the CSUDH bookstore for about $20.00..
Courses that waive the culture exam are
Spanish 350, 351 or Multicultural Ed
420.
2. Oral
Exam:

The exam is given in Spanish by the
Foreign Language Department (FLD). You
may use a Spanish dictionary at the time
of the exam. Register with the FLD.
The results take up to two weeks to
arrive in my office. I will email or
call you to inform you of the results.
You may waive this exam if you have a
Level A Proficiency letter from LAUSD.
3. Written
Exam:

The exam is given in
Spanish by the Foreign Language
Department (FLD). Register with the
FLD. The results take up to two weeks
to arrive in my office. I will email or
call you to inform you of the results.
4. Course
work:
Register for TED
Reading Language Arts 403 & 404 BCLAD
section and perform your student
teaching in a bilingual classroom.
(Multiple Subject candidates only.)
5. Letter
of Completion:
Once you have passed
the Culture, Written, and Oral Exams you
will be notified by email. Please read
this email carefully as it will explain
that your Letter of Completion has been
forwarded to your student file and your
copy of the letter is available for
pick- up in the Student Services Center,
SCC Building 5.
6. Special
Education Candidates:
To obtain a BCLAD, you must take the
State exams. BCLAD information can be
found at
www.ctel.nesinc.com.
