Often times many students from Chicana/o, Latina/o communities are the first to pursue higher education in their families. The Dolores Huerta Graduation Celebration offers these graduating students a chance to celebrate their accomplishments at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Participation in the celebration is voluntary, but offers a unique opportunity to engage in a fulfilling recognition of their sacrifice and dedication as undergraduates or graduate students.
The celebration is bilingual, in Spanish and English, and consists of musical performances, dance, and keynote speakers from the community. Each participating graduate has one minute on stage to thank anyone in attendance, thereby exemplifying the intimacy of the celebration. The Dolores Huerta Graduation Celebration is a combined effort of student volunteers and departmental support, including, but not limited to, the Chicana/o Studies Department, the Africana Studies Department, M.E.Ch.A de CSUDH, the Chicana/o Studies Association, Al Frente Graduate Studies Association, Latino Faculty and Staff Association, the Multi-Cultural Center, and many more. The Dolores Huerta Graduation Celebration is open to all students, regardless of ethnicity.
